i believe after all that work they may be dead. but if you can gently comb out the black things with a flea comb it may help you. put some gloves on and see if you can pick or comb them out. it may just be lint and nothing to fear. whatever i would want to know why your mom insists on you keeping it. perhaps you can get other ideas too. good luck!
